What to ask Colleges before you make a decision:
1. Is the College registered?
Ask the College their registration as an RTO (Registered Training Organisation). RTOs are providers and assessors of nationally recognised training. Only RTOs can issue nationally recognised Diplomas and/or Certificates.
We are a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) No. 1491 and all our Certificate and Diploma courses offered at the college are Nationally Recognised and are taught from the National Beauty Training Package offering Nationally Recognised Training.
2. What international qualification will I get at the end of the course? If so, what's your registration number?
ICE is a registered (AU336) CIDESCO College. For more information about CIDESCO, click here. If you're successful, apart from your nationally accredited Diploma of Beauty Therapy, you'll receive a Swiss Diploma, valid in over 33 countries. ICE is the ONLY CIDESCO College in Queensland, that's why we have students from all over Australia coming to us!
3. Do you also offer an INTERNATIONALLY recognised SPA DIPLOMA?
Spa Therapy is a multi billion dollar growth industry not just in Australia but around the world. By gaining expertise in the use of various spa treatments such as stone therapy, hydrotherapy and Indian head massage, graduates will have up to the minute skills which will open doors in both the spa and beauty therapy industries. ICE is the only CIDESCO College in Qld offering their students the opportunity to receive a CIDESCO SPA DIPLOMA, apart from the CIDESCO BEAUTY DIPLOMA.
4. Do you provide ONE WORK STATION PER STUDENT (beauty therapy bed plus trolley with both strip and hot wax pots, tinting kit, all other waxing and facial utensils)?
The answer needs to be YES, for obvious reasons! If the College has limited facilities, then you'll get limited learning….
5. Will I receive a student kit with all included?
Please check that when you pay your fees, the College includes absolutely everything you'll need (all books, towels, manicure and pedicure kit, make-up brushes, uniform, etc). This will avoid other “surprising” costs you'll have while still doing the course, as you'll need the tools for your learning, and they need to be YOURS (no sharing of tools!)
6. How many product knowledge days will I have, and with what skin care companies?
Having a minimum of 6 product knowledge days from well known and reputable skin care companies, means that you'll graduate with a few more certificates to put you ahead of other job hunters. Please note: training should be provided at your College, to avoid costs of going to Brisbane (transport, accommodation, food), so check that as well!
7. Are you a member of which associations in the industry?
Beauty Colleges need to be a member of at least one of the following:
ASPA: The Australasian Spa Association is the industry peak body, promoting professionalism, raising awareness and growing a vibrant and sustainable spa, health and wellness industry. ASpa brings together Spa professionals to deliver excellence in Spa, Health and Wellness.
AAPA: Australia's Premier Professional Beauty Association - The Association of Professional Aestheticians of Australia (APAA). Celebrating a 50 Year Legacy. The APAA is the oldest and most active Association in the Beauty Industy in Australia.
The APAA has over the past 50 years set the standards for Professional Beauty Therapy in Australia.
AABTH: Advanced Association of Beauty Therapists. The AABTh was established in 1974 and continues to be the most prestigious organisation of practicing Professional Beauty Therapists in Australia with the highest level of theoretical and practical training.
8. Will I have a graduation party (dinner or something special so I can invite and celebrate with friends and family)?
Not essential, but nice to have. After a full year of study, you'll want to celebrate with your family and friends, so everybody will know who's the new therapist they can go to! At ICE we provide students with a formal dinner graduation party, so you can celebrate your achievement in style!
9. What's your job placement rate?
A College needs to be reaching 90 to 100% job placement. That means their students are able to start working soon after graduating. To check that they are providing you with the right information, just ask a Spa/Salon near you where they hire their staff from and why!
